Cheshire Registrar Among Critics of Election Reforms

Democratic Registrar Aleta Looker said same-day registration would overburnden local election officials.

Democratic Party Registrar of Voters Aleta Looker criticized one part of the new state legislative proposals to in Connecticut elections this week.

An article in the Hartford Courant quoted Looker criticizing the same-day registration provision included in Gov. Dannel Malloy’s package of election-related bills at a hearing before the state Legislature’s Government Administration and Elections Committee.

She wasn’t alone. Looker said the same-day provision would overburden already overworked election officials. Others said it isn’t the government’s job to get more people to the polls if they don’t care enough to register and to vote.
