Funeral for Anne Giddings on Saturday

The service for Anne Giddings will be held at the church where she served as a deacon.

The funeral for Town Councilor Anne Giddings will be held Saturday at 11 a.m at the First Congregational Church of Cheshire.

Alderson Funeral Home at 615 South Main St. will hold a visitation on Fri., April 29 from 4 to 8 p.m.

Giddings, 66, died at St. Mary's Hospital in Waterbury on Monday where she had been in critical condition for more than a month. She was injured on March 22 in a one-car accident on Boulder Road.

Giddings was known for her support of land conservation. She and her husband, Bob Giddings, donated a conservation easement of farm land to the Cheshire Land Trust. Their donation is described on the land trust's website.

Giddings had a career in education, having served as a school principal in Newington and assistant superintendent in Ansonia, according to her candidate biography. She was in her first term on the Town Council after being elected as part of a seven-seat Republican sweep in 2009.

Giddings had a doctorate in education from the University of Hartford. Her undergraduate work was done at Mt. Holyoke College and Northwestern University.

She is survived by her husband, two children and grandchildren. The funeral will be officiated by the Reverends Jeffrey Bruan and Alison McCaffrey.
