Colonel Promotes Cheshire Soldier

Ceremony was held this week for wounded Cheshire soldier Josh Budd.

A surprise visit greeted Cheshire's Josh Budd this week when an Army Colonel arrived from Alaska with important news. Budd has been promoted to the rank of Specialist three months before the "rank up" was scheduled.

According to an online journal written by Budd's mother, Barbara Budd, her son received his promotion from Col. Todd R. Wood. Budd's Specialist pin was presented by fellow soldier Sgt. Davin Dumar. The two are recuperating in Maryland at Walter Reed Army Medical Center from injuries they received in Afghanistan last summer.

"Col. Wood spoke of the good report they had gotten from Josh's superiors and how he deserved to rank up at this time. It was a proud moment for sure," Barbara Budd wrote.

Josh Budd lost a leg after his unit was struck by an IED during patrol in July, 2011. He's been receiving treatment at Walter Reed since then except for a month-long visit to Cheshire in December.
