Wounded Cheshire Soldier Has Surgery

Joshua Budd is recovering from long-awaited surgery on his legs.

Wounded Cheshire soldier Pfc. Joshua Budd is recuperating today after surgery on both his legs.

His mother, Barbara Budd wrote in her online journal on Thursday that her son will be in the hospital for about four days as he recovers from the surgery.

"The doctors were able to get the rod out of the left femur "surprisingly easy" and the ex fix  (external fixator) is off his right leg," she wrote.

Budd has been under the care of the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Maryland since he was injured last July while serving in Afghanistan.

He lost his left leg and had severe injuries to his right leg and internal organs. Budd has been fitted with an artificial leg.

He was able to return to Cheshire for a month-long visit in December before returning to Walter Read to prepare for the surgery.

Through a number of fund raising events, Cheshire supporters helped purchase a pick-up truck that was adapted for Budd to use. Donations have also helped the family with travel expenses to and from Maryland.
