Beth Israel Synagogue of Wallingford presents Colors of My Jewish Year. This interactive educational series is for children ages three to eight for affiliated, unaffiliated, and interfaith Jewish youngsters in the greater Wallingford area. Children and their caregivers will join at this gathering to learn about the joy of Shabbat, read stories, and participate in fun activities while enjoying a special holiday treat.
This program has been made possible through a generous grant from The Jewish Federation of Greater New Haven.

Cheshire Public Library

In the past decades, the overwintering population of eastern North American monarch butterflies has declined significantly. While many factors contribute to this decline, loss of milkweed, the monarch's host plant, is generally considered to be a significant cause. Restoring breeding habitat in the U.S., including milkweed and nectar sources, is an actionable step toward population recovery. Dr. Kelsey Fisher from the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station will be at the <a tabindex="-1" href="https://null" rel="nofollow" target="_blank"></a>Cheshire Public Library to give us information designed to equip us to establish monarch butterfly habitats in our own spaces. Each attendee will also be going home with native milkweed seeds to help jumpstart our efforts in helping the monarchs!

Erica has a background in Occupational Therapy and is the Director of Community Education at LiveWell. She facilitates educational programs for individuals living with varying forms of cognitive change and their care partners. She is especially passionate about changing the narrative surrounding dementia and helping others to recognize that you can live well with dementia, with the right supports and resources!&nbsp;

Humanists and Freethinkers of Fairfield County (HFFC) welcomes Mike Allen, host and producer of the podcast Amazing Tales from Off and On Connecticut’s Beaten Path as their featured speaker on May 13, 2024 at the Wilton Quaker Meetinghouse. Mike Allen will describe the amazing tale of a Brookfield, CT, murder case that in 1981 included the defense “the devil made me do it.” Allen has insights to share since he covered the story as a journalist, and was also featured in the Netflix documentary about the case. 
Amazing Tales from Off and On Connecticut's Beaten Path is a weekly program of 20-minute vignettes about Connecticut's historic past. It's ranked among the top 5-10% of all podcasts in the United States. Mike's background includes ten years as News Director of radio stations in Brookfield, a stint as Press Secretary to the Mayor of Danbury, and a 25-year corporate career in communications and marketing. He currently lives in Danbury.
This meeting is free and open to all. Join us at the Wilton (Connecticut) Quaker Meeting House for the presentation and come to the social hour beforehand. Pizza and refreshments will be served from 6-6:45 PM. We will also be recording and broadcasting this meeting virtually via Zoom for anyone who is unable to join us in person. HFFC meets on the second Monday of each month.

Sherill will outline innovative municipal pilots and what schools and businesses can do to reduce, reuse and recycle the organic portion of our municipal solid waste. She will also offer an overview of state programs as well as steps individuals can take to participate in food waste prevention and food recovery solutions.

Michael Zanetti, author of the children's book The Sloth and His Friends, will be at Barnes &amp; Noble on Saturday, May 18th&nbsp;from 11:30-3:30 to sign copies. The Sloth and His Friends is a fun, heartwarming story about a sloth that teaches kids about the Amazon rainforest and its rich diversity of life. It's great for kids ages 7-12. Sal the sloth lives a rather dull life in the rainforest canopy. Although Sal has lofty goals, he struggles with his "slothfulness." While his animal friends run, jump or fly around, Sal can barely make it to the top of his tree. Meanwhile, rainforest life is disturbed when a logging company begins clear-cutting trees and burning brush near Sal's home. What will Sal and his friends do? How will they survive? Will nature-loving humans come to their aid? “This book is quirky, funny, and unique and a lot of young people like sloths. Even though it's about a sloth, it's rather fast-paced and exciting,” Zanetti says.
