PEWS featuring unlikely combinations and fresh musical adventures. On Saturday, April 20th from 7-9 pm, Washboard Slim and the Blue Lights 
will have the joint jumping with their signature Americana. <a href="https://washboardslim.com/home" class="redactor-autoparser-object" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">https://washboardslim.com/home</a> After 40 years of playing together, Washboard Slim and the Bluelights has evolved into one of the country's most versatile and original of jug 
bands.Incorporating pure Americana instruments like tub bass, 
washboard, jug, banjo, harmonica, and fiddle, adding drums and powerful vocal harmonies, this band rocks sold-out concerts, dance halls and family shows. Playing their own compositions as well as original 
arrangements of traditional gospel and blues tunes, their music is by 
turns playful and haunted. It's no wonder legendary blues/folk artist, 
Eric Von Schmidt described Washboard Slim and the Bluelights as 
traditional music on overdrive. BAND MEMBERS Peter (Washboard 
Slim) Menta - Drums, Harmonica, Kazoo, Washboard, Vocals. A thirty year 
veteran, performing jug band and blues music, Washboard Slim was 
featured at the Philadelphia Folk Festival with the Barrelhouse Boys. In 
 addition, he has appeared on stage with Willie Dixon, Sonny Terry and 
Brownie McGhee, Geoff Muldaur, Eric Von Schmidt, Fritz Richmond and Dave 
 Van Ronk. Brooks Barnett - Accordion, Banjo, Drums, Guitar, 
Mandolin, Piano, Vocals. Our ace utility player originally from West 
Virginia, Brooks combines a love of old time mountain music and classic 
rock and roll that complements the bands sound. With over twenty years 
of professional playing experience, Brooks is an excellent vocalist and 
arranges harmonies for the group. Howard Horn - Banjo, Jug, 
Washtub Bass, Vocals. Howie and Slim were both members of the Ten Years 
Late Jug Band and Nevard and the Barrelhouse Boys, touring the northeast 
 for over ten years. Featured performances included the Louisville Folk 
Festival, Philadelphia Folk Festival, Cambridge River Festival, and the 
New Haven Jazz Festival. A stunning virtuoso on jug and bass, Howie is 
also known for his amusing stage patter. Mat Kastner - Banjo, 
Guitar, National Steel Guitar. A veteran Connecticut folk and rock 
musician, Mat achieved national recognition as lead guitarist with 
Mercury recording artist, Randy Burns. John Pendergast - Guitar, 
Fiddle, Mandolin, Vocals.. John has played with a number of well known 
swing bands all over the United States and has toured nationally with 
the Juggernaut Jug Band.</td></tr>

First Congregational Church

Internationally known climate expert Daniel Esty, Director of the Yale Center for Environmental Law and Policy, will speak on climate and sustainability Monday, April 22, Earth Day, at First Congregational Church, Cheshire. His talk, “Busting Through Planetary Boundaries: Climate Change, Biodiversity, and Beyond,” will be at 7:30 p.m. at the church, on Route 10 in the center of Cheshire. The talk is free, and the public is cordially invited. 
Professor Esty has written or edited 14 books (including the prizewinning volumes Green to Gold and A Better Planet) and dozens of articles on climate change, environmental protection, regulatory reform, and sustainability. He formerly served as Commissioner of Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection and recently concluded two years of public leave from Yale, during which time he worked at the World Trade Organization, helping to develop a sustainability strategy for the global trading system.
He co-leads the <a href="https://remakingtradeproject.org/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Remaking Trade for a Sustainable Future Project</a> and, with a network of leaders around the world, developed the <a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/1WRCtT67J6acBqf4BzBS7uYz6kwBQ5I2m/view" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Villars Framework for a Sustainable Trade System</a>. 
Professor Esty’s Earth Day talk is sponsored by the Eco Action Team of First Congregational Church. Parking is available behind the church, accessed from Cornwall Avenue.

Join us as we celebrate our 2024 scholarship recipients and recognize those who have helped us in our mission of supporting Waterbury-area Catholic schools in memory of Waterbury Deputy Police Chief Chris Corbett. 
Proceeds from the dinner will benefit the Christopher D. Corbett Memorial Fund, established in 2015. The fund awards scholarships to students wishing to attend Catholic elementary and high schools in the greater Waterbury area. Scholarships are also awarded to college-bound graduates of local Catholic high schools who plan to pursue studies in criminal justice. This year, 23 scholarship recipients have been selected. 
In addition to the 2024 scholarship recipients, honorees at the dinner will include founding sponsors Blasius Chevrolet, Cly-Del, and O&amp;G Industries and in-kind donors Calli Brothers, Dunkin – the Batista Family, and Frankies – Caroline &amp; Joseph Caiazzo.
