Benefits of Therapeutic Massage

Benefits of Therapeutic Massage

When you hear the words “massage therapy”, what images play through your mind?  Do you experience the soothing sounds of relaxing music?  Do you sense the tension in your body melting away?  Do you dream up fields of lavender or peppermint?  Massage is a wonderful escape from the day-to-day stressors of life and can be a luxurious part of a spa treatment, but have you ever wondered what else massage can do for you?

While most people understand massage to be a luxurious treat, there are many health benefits to receiving massage on a regular basis.  More and more research is proving that regular massage benefits all types of people.  Athletes can recover more quickly from the stresses of training or the impact of strenuous competition.  Sufferers of chronic pain and/or illness may experience a decrease or elimination of symptoms.  Even those in good health benefit from the maintenance of good posture (after all, who doesn’t look at a computer for extended amounts of time?) and stimulation of the immune system (I’m lookin’ at you, flu season!).

Speak with your local massage therapist about the different types of massage s/he offers and how regular massage can help you become your best and healthiest self.  Remember to check your therapist’s credentials to make sure they are properly trained in providing the best care possible.  Therapists should be licensed by the state of Connecticut and may also be nationally certified in therapeutic massage and bodywork.
