Only a day before voters head to the polls, state Attorney General George Jepsen has endorsed Dante Bartolomeo for State Senate. Bartolomeo is the Democratic nominee in the 13th Senate District that includes Meriden, Cheshire, Middletown, Middlefield and Rockfall.
“I’m most appreciative for Attorney General Jepsen’s endorsement and for taking the time to support my campaign,” Bartolomeo said. “I’m running for the State Senate to bring good paying jobs back to Connecticut, protect our working families and make sure that every child has an opportunity to receive a first-class education.”
As Attorney General, George Jepsen is the State’s top lawyer and highest ranking law enforcement official in Connecticut. In endorsing Bartolomeo, Jepsen joined the Meriden City Councilwoman in meeting prospective voters Monday at Huxley’s Bookmark Café in Meriden.
Attorney General Jepsen is not the only law enforcement official to endorse Bartolomeo’s candidacy. Her campaign has also been endorsed by Connecticut Council of Police Council AFSCME Council 15, Connecticut Police and Fire Union Locals 74 & S-15, Meriden Firefighters 1148, and the Uniformed Professional Firefighters Association of Connecticut.
“Throughout her career, Danté has been a proven advocate for police officers in her community,” said Jeffrey H. Matchett, Executive Director of AFSCME Council 15. “Our members are particularly impressed by her stance on reforming the State’s Risk Reduction Credit program and keeping violent criminals behind bars. We are proud to endorse Danté and have no doubt she will continue her support for our public safety professionals as State Senator.”
The Connecticut Police and Fire Union, a State employee labor union comprised of over 900 public safety professionals, also announced its endorsement following a meeting of the Union’s Executive Board.
“Danté has proven herself to be a principled and distinguished leader in her service to the City of Meriden” said Union President Glenn Terlecki. “Her proposal to revamp the Risk Reduction Credit Program will restrict convicted felons from gaining early release while continuing to provide beneficial programs to rehabilitate nonviolent inmates.”
Both the Meriden Firefighters and UPFFA recently supported Bartolomeo, praising her for her longstanding support of regional firefighters.
“Firefighters’ Local 1148 expresses our sincere thank you to Danté for the hard work she has put into the betterment of Meriden,” said Brendan Noonan, Vice President of the union’s political action committee. “We have proudly endorsed Danté and encourage all to vote for her Tuesday.”
“It is an honor for the Uniformed Professional Firefighters Association of Connecticut to endorse Danté Bartolomeo for State Senate in the 13th District,” added UPFFA President Peter Carozza, Jr. “After careful consideration, Danté’s support for Connecticut’s professional firefighters and issues critical to Homeland Security made her the strongest candidate.”
