Workshops on Social Media for Area Nonprofits

WATERBURY, CT – October 3, 2012 – The Nonprofit Assistance Initiative (NAI), a joint program of the Connecticut Community Foundation and United Way of Greater Waterbury, teams up with the Community Foundation of Northwest Connecticut and the Connecticut Association of Nonprofits to offer two half-day workshops in November for nonprofits in Greater Waterbury and the Litchfield Hills.

“We have received many requests from nonprofits on how to make the best use of social media and how to build an effective board,” said John Long, NAI program officer. “Both trainers are knowledgeable in the latest research and have real, on-the-ground experience that will help organizations move forward.”

Anne Yurasek of FIO Partners will provide information on social media tools, developing content that is compelling and engaging, and review tools for measuring and tracking success during “Social Media Strategy Development” on Friday, November 9, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Northwest Connecticut Community College, Draper Board Room, Park Place East, Winsted, CT. The course covers the various uses of social media such as fundraising, program support and raising awareness as part of your overall communications and marketing strategy. Fee for the program is $50 per person.

Sharon Danosky will lead, “Leadership, Governance and Building Your Board” on Friday, November 30, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the University of Connecticut, Torrington Campus, 855 University Dr., Torrington, CT.  Danosky designed this workshop to help new and existing board members understand the infrastructure necessary to have a high functioning board. The focus is on three specific areas: who to recruit, how to orient a new board member, how an effective board conducts business. Fee is $50 per person.

To register for either program, go to the Connecticut Community Foundation at www.conncf.org/workshops and follow the links to Connecticut Association of Nonprofits at www.ctnonprofits.org/education/offerings, or call 860-525-5080.
