Cheshire Newcomers & Neighbors - Membership Drive

Cheshire, CT – Cheshire Newcomers & Neighbors Club kicks off its annual Membership Drive with an Open House held at the Cheshire Park and Recreation, Harmon Leonard Jr. Youth Center, on Saturday, August 17th.

The Club's new President, Kathy Walker, stated, "The Open House event is a great way to open the door to new and existing residents of Cheshire to stop in, meet the Board Members, and get acquainted with what the Club has to offer families, empty-nesters, and singles.  Several new families who recently located to town as well as people that have been here a while attended to learn more about the Club's activities and benefits of Membership."  She is pleased to report that Open House attendees have already signed up for annual Membership.

The Club is starting off strong this year with a new website, new Vision and Governance statements to drive planned social and civic opportunities. So far this year, they have held civic activities such as food bank collections and sponsorship of a local teen for Back to School clothing and supplies. For social events, they regularly hold a Members only Book Club, Wine & Women social, local dining out for adults only, and "Pizza at the Pool" for children and families.

For civic opportunities, a Chili Cook Off is planned for October 13th to benefit the Cheshire Fuel Bank.  Kristen Schechter, Cheshire Social Services, attended the Open House to speak to the growing number of Cheshire residents in need of Fuel Assistance.  Civic organizations such as Cheshire Newcomers & Neighbors have the potential to collectively contribute to the Fund.  This will make a huge difference in the number of residents Cheshire Social Services can provide assistance.  Local restaurants, businesses and residents are encouraged to participate.

The Club now celebrates its 52nd year!   Cheshire Newcomers & Neighbors Club’s commitment to introduce and acquaint new and existing residents to Cheshire has survived over five decades. More information on our Club or how to register for the Chili Cook Off and Membership is available at http://cheshirenewcomers.org.
