Progress continues with the local on-line resource encyclopedia called Cheshirepedia, now submitting their project to the on-line funding tool designed for startup projects called “Kickstarter.”

President John Fournier describes Kickstarter as a great resource for new and novel projects. “Cheshirepedia is on its way to being another unique part of the Cheshire landscape.”

He is looking forward to having funding available to finalize design on the Cheshirepedia website as well as moving forward with 501c3 non-profit status.

“Having this status is key,” Fournier explained, as this allows for tax-deductible donations. Cheshire’s Town Historian, Jeanné Chesanow, was the inspiration behind the Cheshirepedia concept.

“So many people have asked me if there was a website where they could find ‘all things Cheshire’ and one day I simply said why not create Cheshirepedia for this purpose,” explains Chesanow.

She envisions the website as being a go-to place for students and educators with well-referenced submissions being available on any number of topics from apples to zoning.

“There are other websites similar to this. Wikipedia, of course, is one that most people are familiar with. The VERY FEW towns that have websites seem to have taken the free Wiki path and consequently those sites do not have much of a personality of their own.

Those sites look very much the same with different information filled in.  Ours will be one of very few non-Wiki sites associated with a town of this size – the examples we studied and emulated are from cities or states.  So ours will be an experiment, an adventure, a step into new territory.

To sustain it will require the commitment of time, energy and talent of a few innovators and pioneers, and the contributions (of money, stories, writings, images, recordings) of many more who will be enriched by adding to and/or exploring this resource.”

So if you would like to help this new venture,  please visit www.kickstarter.com and search for CHESHIREPEDIA.  Payments can be made through Amazon (and the website will direct you to this).

As Diane Calabro has written, Cheshirepedia will accommodate traditional excellence in research and writing - and at the same time be on the lookout for the startlingly new, the talent that grabs one's attention and will not let go. If you are one of those, don't be shy! Show us your stuff and you just might find your first home here, at Cheshirepedia.
