Donors' Gift to Enhance Computer Lab at SS. Peter and Paul School

On Monday, April 21st, SS. Peter and Paul students will walk into their computer lab to find 30 new Dell Chromebook laptop computers, enhanced wireless internet capabilities, and technology that will give each student access to Google Apps.

Monsignor James Coleman, pastor of SS. Peter and Paul Parish in Waterbury, will bless the new computer lab at 9:30 a.m.

According to Principal Janet Curry, the computer lab will be state-of-the-art. Each student will have their own personalized login, and have complete access to the Internet where they will be able to work and store documents in “the cloud.” With cloud-based storage, each student will have access to their files from any computer they may use.

The computers and upgrade were made possible through a generous donation from Kim and Jeff Fryer of Southington. Jeff is a 1983 graduate of SS. Peter and Paul. After meeting with the school several times and discussing various ideas over the past few months, he and his wife decided that the computer lab would be a wise investment.

“We believe in parochial schools, the quality of education, and the value that they offer. We hope that the new computer lab at SS. Peter and Paul will cultivate an environment that will inspire the students to embrace their school work and excel in their studies,” said Jeff Fryer.

Fryer coordinated a technology feasibility assessment for the school that was performed gratis by Charles Computer Services of Middletown in order to ensure that the school would receive the latest technology that would enhance its curriculum and provide students with the appropriate equipment.

“We are extremely grateful to Kim and Jeff Fryer for this wonderful and generous gift.  Through their support, they have given our students access to the latest technology tools that will help their developing minds flourish and to enhance the technical skills necessary to meet the challenges they will face,” said Curry. “There are few greater gifts than those which will help all of our children advance in such a fast-paced world. We extend the gratitude of the faculty, students and parents to them, and thank them from the bottom of our hearts.”

Curry adds that there are many people to be thanked for their assistance in making this project come to fruition including parents, staff, and volunteers who assisted with cleaning, painting, and installing new shelving in the new lab.

In addition to the donation, the City of Waterbury has provided a grant to the school allowing it to purchase eleven additional Dell Chromebook laptops for teachers to use in the classroom. The grant will also cover training for the teachers.

SS. Peter and Paul School located at 116 Beecher Ave., Waterbury, CT is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.
