More than $2.9 Million Awarded to Greater New Haven Nonprofits by The Community Foundation

Grants aimed at building infrastructure of nonprofits, connecting people in the region, boosting the region’s economic success, protecting our natural resources, supporting the arts and innovative projects.

New Haven, CT (November 11, 2013)- The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven, the permanent endowment and largest grantmaker to nonprofit organizations serving the Greater New Haven region, announces that it has awarded $2,943,110 in multi-year grants to 49 nonprofits serving its twenty-town region. Critical issues in Greater New Haven such as immigration, prisoner reentry, workforce development and youth violence were addressed through several grants. This responsive grants process represents only one element of The Foundation’s overall grantmaking, which is expected to exceed $20 million in total by year end.

“At its core, The Foundation’s responsive grantmaking aims to strengthen our community by funding programs that provide a wide array of services to people in the region and by building the capacity of our local nonprofit organizations” said William W. Ginsberg, President & CEO of The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven. “While the bulk of the grants support specific organizations to deliver specific kinds of services to particular audiences, The Community Foundation also takes a broader perspective when allocating grant resources. We also support organization’s that strengthen our community by building strong connections among people in the region.”
