Naugatuck Chamber's Duck Day & Race, Sun., June 1, Rain or Shine

Naugatuck Chamber of Commerce’ will hold their 9th Annual Duck Day and Race on Sunday, June 1st. The full day fundraiser will offer many popular activities and events including a Haunted House and Halloween Costume Contest, Duck Race, Duck Tank, and a Duck Decoration Contest. The widely-popular Duck Day and Race event is one of the largest duck race fundraisers in Connecticut with several thousand attendees. Admission to Duck Day is free and festivities will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine.

The highlight of the Duck Day and Race will be at 2:00 p.m. sharp, when 20,000 rubber ducks will be dumped from the Whittemore Bridge at the corners of Maple and Water Streets. The ducks will race down the Naugatuck River with the ambition to be among the first 25 ducks to win the competition. Festivities from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Maple and Water Streets will include a full day of games, food and craft vendors, circus talent, business booths, live music and much more. Raffle tickets will be sold throughout the day, and in advance, for the Duck Race, and tickets must be purchased to be eligible to win 1 of 25 prizes.

The prizes to be awarded for winners of the 2014 Duck Race include the top prize of $5,000 cash; a 2 CT diamond 14K yellow gold ladies diamond tennis bracelet; $500 Brass Mill Center and Commons gift certificate; $500 Roma's Ristorante gift certificate; LG LN5300 42” 1080p TV; Apple Ipad Mini 16GB WiFi Black; four tickets for a Broadway 2014-2015 Series performance at The Palace Theater; $175 Bounce N Play Rentals gift certificate; and a private chocolate experience party for up to 15 people at Fascia's Chocolates in Waterbury.

“Winners of our popular ‘Halloween-in-June’ Costume Contest will be eligible to win ‘creepy cash’ prizes” stated Ward, “with the top award being $1,000. Anyone who would like to be a contestant should wear their costume to Duck Day and register at the “Halloween in June” Costume tent on Maples Street between 11:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.” The contest is being sponsored by Anomatic Corp., The Eastern Company, Naugatuck Valley Memorial Fitzgerald-Zembruski Funeral Home. The contest will include cash prizes in judging categories that range from children in pre-K to adults 18 years and older.

“The popular Dunk Tank,” stated Ward, “will feature the dunking of teachers from Naugatuck High School, Naugatuck Tax Collector Jim Goggin, plus executives from Ion Bank, who are among the events’ top sponsors. We invite other corporate sponsors to join in the fun by registering to ‘dunk’ some of their staff members for charity as well.”
