Bartolomeo Joining UConn Women's Basketball Team in White House Trip

The state senator whose district includes Cheshire will be accompanying the team in its visit with President Barack Obama.

The below information came from a press release.

State Sen. Dante Bartolomeo will join the UConn Women's Basketball team when it visits the White House to meet with President Barack Obama.

The meeting, scheduled to happen on Wednesday, is being done in honor of the team's victory in the 2013 NCAA Women's National Championship.

“This is a great honor and I’m thrilled to be representing the Connecticut State Senate as we meet with President Obama,” Bartolomeo said in a news release. “What better opportunity, than in the company of our premiere student athletes, to promote Connecticut. I hope to take this opportunity to let the president know that Middlesex Community College would be an ideal location for one of the advanced manufacturing innovation institutes he recently proposed.”

The release said President Obama is seeking to create more than a dozen advanced-manufacturing innovation institutes around the country focusing on digital manufacturing, lightweight composites and next-generation power sources. The institutes will mesh industry, universities and community colleges with federal agencies to design and implement innovations in manufacturing, Bartolomeo said.

Just this year, Bartolomeo voted to approve $1.7 million in state funding to create manufacturing technology programs at three Connecticut community colleges; the program provides students with technology and academic education that leads to a career with local manufacturers and continuous personal and professional development.
