First Major Snow Blankets Cheshire

Conditions are expected to improve today after a snowy Saturday.



Winter doesn't officially start for another week, but try telling that to Mother Nature.

Several inches of snow fell throughout the day Saturday, and a winter snow warning is in effect until Sunday morning at 6 a.m.

The town has put a parking ban in effect through Sunday.

The overnight forecast for Saturday into Sunday called for snow before 1 a.m., then freezing rain between 1 a.m. and 3 a.m., then rain after 3 a.m., according to the National Weather Service. 

From the NWS:

The snow could be heavy at times. Low around 18. Blustery, with an east wind 18 to 23 mph, with gusts as high as 34 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total nighttime ice accumulation of around a 0.1 of an inch is possible. Total nighttime snow accumulation of 3 to 7 inches possible.

Sunday's outlook is looking better, with the NWS calling for a mostly cloudy day with a high of 43 and a low of 19 Sunday night. It will be colder Monday, with highs only around 30.
