Frugal Family

It's still cold outside despite the arrival of spring, so here are some activities and ideas to keep you warm!

 The ice may be breaking up outside, but never fear: you don’t need to hang up your ice skates just yet. Pack up the family and head to the Hamden ice rink (595 Mix Ave. Hamden) on Sunday afternoons for public skating from 4:30 to 6 p.m.  The cost is just $5 per person; rentals are an additional $5.

 Looking to green your lawn – organically? Check out the on organic lawn and land care next Monday, March 28, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Cheshire Public Library. Pre-registration required. Contact Bill Basel at 272-2245;  bbasel@cheshirelibrary.org Learn more from their website. Free.

Here’s a frugal family meal out: this Friday, March 25, from 5-7 p.m., St. Bridget School, 175 Main St. in Cheshire, is serving a featuring pasta fagioli, soup, ziti and sauce, salad, bread, dessert and beverages for $8 per adult, $5 per child (age 10 and under). Maximum family rate is $22. Lenten suppers continue at St. Bridget’s every Friday through April 15.

Brunswick Bowl in Plantsville has some really reasonable specials. Bowl from 9-12 Sunday mornings for just 99 cents a game! Or bring the kids after school (2-5:30) Monday-Thursday, and get two hours unlimited bowling, shoe rental, a drink and small fry for 6.99 each (if lanes are available; must complete games by 5:30 p.m.)
