Virginia Earthquake felt in Cheshire [UPDATE]

Cars rocked and dogs awoke when Virginia temblor felt in region.

There was little damage in Connecticut from Tuesday's 5.8 magnitude Virginia earthquake, but that doesn't mean it didn't go unnoticed.

"I felt it in Cheshire. The dogs even got off their beds," Elizabeth wrote.

"It felt like a large truck was driving by. It was more confusing than scary," said Lauren Takores of Wallingford. She was stopped at a red light. "I thought a huge truck must have been passing by, but I didn't see anything. My car definitely was shaking."

Cheshire native Julia Jones also said her car was rocking. She thought her strong boyfriend was making it move back and forth!

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy released a statement Tuesday afternoon noting the state's Emergency Operations Center was opened as a precaution. "But at this point, there have been no reports of injury or damage," he said in the statement.

The New Haven Register said play was stopped at the New Haven Open and the Connecticut Tennis Center was evacuated. 

WNPR's Colin McEnroe, who was broadcasting live in Hartford when the quake hit, left the studio with other crew members. His blog chronicles the incident.
