Art in the Gardens Opening Reception in Cheshire on Friday

The 3rd Annual Cheshire Art League Show and Sale kicks off with an art-packed reception at Cheshire Nursery.

It may not be an exhibit of the Ecole des Beaux Arts, but Friday’s opening reception of Art in the Gardens will be one of Cheshire’s cultural highlights of the season.

The reception at from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. brings together virtually every art organization in town to raise awareness of Cheshire’s deeply talented local artists.

The reception kicks off the 3rd Annual Cheshire Art League Show and Sale that continues from Oct. 15 – 23.  This year’s opening night also includes works from the town-owned art school,

“This is mainly to get artists (works) out to the public,” said art league member Dale Spaner. “There is no commission taken, artists don’t have to give 50 percent to a gallery,” Spaner said. “This is more exposure for the art league.”

The exhibition space at Cheshire Nursery is being offered rent free, Spaner added, allowing the artists to show their work for little cost.

Cheshire Art League will have 25 exhibitors offering works in oil, watercolor and pastels, said Spaner.

Artsplace will offer a “clothesline exhibit” of small canvasses that will be on sale for $20 each. Those purchasing the 5x7 artwork will receive free framing from .

Artsplace will have at least 30 pieces for sale in the clothesline exhibit, said Liz Augustine of Artsplace. “It’s original, unframed art,” she said. Augustine said at that price, much of the artwork may be sold the night of the reception.

The piece de resistance of the exhibition could be the floral interpretations of the artwork created by professional and amateur arrangers who will interpret works by art league members.

Not to be overlooked on this memorable evening will be local musicians, The Sawtelles and the Bennett Family band, along with “Tasty Tidbits” provided by and will offer wine tastings.

A suggested donation of $5, and other proceeds from the reception, will be donated to two local groups: Friends of Boulder Knoll (community farm) and Budd's Buddies, which benefits wounded Cheshire soldier Joshua Budd.
