Who Says It's Just A Man's World? Women in Classical Music

Meet Hildegard of Bingen (born more than 900 years ago!), Clara Wieck Schumann (wife of composer Robert Schumann), Fanny Mendelssohn (sister of the composer Felix Mendelssohn), early 20th century American composer Amy Beach (a piano prodigy who soloed with the Boston Symphony Orchestra at the age of 15!), and many, many more women composers throughout history.  We'll hear great women musicians like pianist Simone Dinnerstein, harpsichordist Wanda Landowska, percussionist Evelyn Glennie, violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter, harpist Catrin Finch, trumpet virtuoso Alison Balsom, cellist Jacqueline du Pre, and guitarist Sharon Isbin, as well as all-women ensembles like the Cavani String Quartet and tenThing Brass Ensemble.  Women account for nearly half of the personnel of major American symphony orchestras today, and are receiving Pulitzer Prizes, Guggenheim Fellowships, and other top awards...come find out how women are changing the face of the classical music world!

Presenting this evening of "Listening Adventures" is David Sims, a graduate of the Yale School of Music, who was awarded analumniVenture grant from Yale University to present free music enrichment programs to the public.
