New Haven Free Public Library Host Sherlock Holmes

The East Haddam Stage Company will present Sherlock Holmes and The Adventure of the Speckled Band, a live-action "radio" drama complete with sound effects and audience participation

The public is invited to enjoy a post-Thanksgiving treat on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 30, at New Haven Free Public Library, 133 Elm St.

The East Haddam Stage Company will present Sherlock Holmes and The Adventure of the Speckled Band, a live-action “radio” drama complete with sound effects and audience participation. Four EHSC actors will portray seven characters in this recreation of the 1930 radio script in which William Gillette (of Castle fame) originally performed.

Gillette (1853-1937) was a prominent American actor, playwright and stage-manager of the late 19th and early 20th centuries who is best remembered for his portrayals of Sherlock Holmes. EHSC Artistic Director Kadie Carle will set the stage with a profile of the famous actor before the show begins.
