Chris Murphy vs Linda McMahon: Keep Your Eye on the Ball

McMahon vs Murphy: It’s critical that we focus on how each candidate might impact our lives.

Rather than write my usual type of blog which causes many of my devoted followers to become dyspepsic,  I’ll just do a purely informational one.
After all, who cares about the circus surrounding both McMahon and Murphy? It’s critical that we focus on how each candidate might impact our lives.

Here is a sampling of Congressman’s Murphy’s voting record and what Linda McMahon has stated on the record.

Congressman Murphy has repeatedly stated, “I support health care reform because I believe that quality, affordable health care coverage should be a right, not a privilege available only to those who can afford it.
Linda McMahon has said that Obamacare is the wrong approach. “ObamaCare will increase costs; repeal it.”

Chris Murphy has stated that the NRA has more control over Congress than any other group. He has supported closing the Gun Show Loophole and restrict show sales.
Linda McMahon fully supports Second Amendment rights and has the highest rating given by NRA for a candidate without a voting record.

Congressman Murphy voted NO on barring EPA from regulating greenhouse gases.
Linda McMahon stated that she strongly opposes replacing coal and oil with alternatives

Chris Murphy voted YES on extending unemployment benefits from 39 weeks to 59 weeks.
He voted NO on the Ryan budget: Medicare choice, tax & spending cuts.

Linda McMahon believes that the Bush tax cuts be made permanent including the top 1 percent. .
Chris Murphy voted to keep student loan rates at 3.4% instead of 6%.
Murphy voted NO on terminating the Home Affordable Mortgage Program.
He voted YES on $15B bailout for GM and Chrysler.

Linda McMahon strongly opposes amnesty for illegal immigrants and believes that “Immigration laws--like all laws--must be enforced”
McMahon believes that we should expand our armed forces.

I hope this is helpful in giving you some insight into how your choice for senator may impact yourlife.

"3a) McMahon stated that she strongly opposes replacing coal and oil with alternatives."
What are the alternatives? Wind? solar? Those industries have crashed and burned even with billions upon billions of taxpayer dollars in subsidies. Ever heard of Solyndra? I would like to see the exact quote from Ms. McMahon that forms the basis for this assertion by the irrepressible Avi. I suspect that what she was saying is that she strongly opposed flushing billions more down the toilet by subsidizing pipe-dream technologies that have no reasonable prospect of ever replacing gas and oil.

For those who enjoy touting the McMahon business record as an example of success does anyone rember the WBF or the XFL?
John Yannacci, Sr. September 20, 2012 at 09:12 pm
I agree with all of Linda's points, and disagree with all of Murphy's. So what was the point of the post?
Jeff Brown September 20, 2012 at 09:25 pm
Wow, the XFL!! Lol Whatta joke that was! Not sure how much Linda had to do with that , but it was one of the biggest flops in the history of sports!
Nutmegger September 20, 2012 at 09:48 pm
I am so fatigued with this race that I honestly don't care what either one dregs up about the other at this point. I just want it to be over.

Bob & Jeff
Have either one of you, in your entire lives, ever signed your name on the front side of a paycheck? I tend to doubt you have because, having made a payroll for almost twenty years, I would never mock someone who had the guts and the spine to take a shot in business regardless of whether it worked.

Gee,where shall I eat tonight McDonald's or Wendy's?.......both suck!!
Jeff Brown September 20, 2012 at 10:27 pm
@Observer , considering you're too good to watch t.v. i'm sure you don't even know what the XFL was , and i was merely have a good chuckle with Robert at how funny it was . And i'm sure even if Vince Mcmahon read this blog (which i doubt ) he would not only whole heartedly agree but also join in on the joke. And yes i have put my name on the front of a check and i doubt you have because you can't even spell your user name correctly. Now go about your miserable lonely existence.

... but let's argue endlessly about the exact kind of lettuce each uses, plus the consistency of the ketchup and whether paper or cardboard is a better way to wrap the burgers... because, you know, they're DIFFERENT and it's really, really important.
James Bond September 21, 2012 at 02:47 am
Jim,
What's different? Both are not very healthy for you.And neither are these two.
jane September 22, 2012 at 12:18 pm
So you contend, that because there have been difficulties with establishing a cost effective energy alternative that the whole idea should be scrapped. Should we also stop spending money trying to fight cancer? Should we also stop spending money to try to find a cure for MS and Alzheimer Disease? After all, we've spent billions on life saving cures. What a waste!
Repubs are so short sighted - it's all about 'me'. I have oil, I have gas, screw my children's grandchildren, I'll be dead by then. Oil, coal, natural gas is finite. It won't be there forever and forever. Wind and sun is infinite - it will be there as long as there is life on this planet. Fortunately those before us had more insight. Why did the government spend money to electrify the country - after all anyone can make a candle. Why did they spend the money to pipe water most Americans - anybody can dig a well, right? And sewer lines - aw geez - what was so bad with a whole in the ground and a moon cut out on the door? The GOP seems to be afraid of progress and I'll never understand that. Maybe someone on this sight can explain it to me. And as far as the rest of McMahon's platform - forget it. She is GWBush on steroids - Let's get over this crash before we elect someone that's more than willing to crash us again.

As long as we have cloudy days when the wind isn't blowing we are not going to be able to rely on wind and solar power. Nighttime can also be a challenge, as can the fact that nobody wants to look at wind generators, even when they are vocal advocates for their construction in someone else's back yard.
I am not short sighted. But I do think we should be spending our money on what works - nuclear fission, and in trying to develop nuclear fusion technology.

Cajones, it shows the character of the person.
Murphy paid his debts, late or not. McMahon never paid hers. Murphy paid his debts a couple of months after they came due. McMahon ran up bills of almost a million dollars 35 years ago, and they still haven't been paid (bankruptcy notwithstanding) McMahon faulted Murphy for not paying a thousand dollars or so in overdue real estate taxes (even AFTER they wre paid). McMahon was delinquent on $27,000+ in real estate taxes. Like I say, these incidents show the character of the person.
janet September 22, 2012 at 05:17 pm
Linda having to pay a 35 year old bankruptcy is ludicris. How about all the Senators now (majority of democroats) who don't pay taxes or forget or have made millions because they are senators. At least Linda made her money in the private sector.
melinda tillie September 22, 2012 at 05:47 pm
So Janet, its not where she made her money, but what she owes.
Robert Bracer September 22, 2012 at 06:06 pm
Linda McMahon will say abything to be elected. It's easy for her to persuade the not well educated and the underemployeed becasue the tend to follow Republicans. However, in the end Linda McMahon just thinks that they are moochers anyway.
Jim G. September 22, 2012 at 07:22 pm
And as long as the Sound doesn't heat up over 74 degrees again, we can depend on nuclear. :)
The sad fact that the solar/wind crowd tries to obscure and ignore is that if we exploited every square foot of available space for solar and farmed out every windpower location, the total would never exceed about 10-12% of global needs, and a much lesser percentage of US-only needs. There is *zero* chance of wind, solar and biomass power replacing fossil and nuclear power, or even substantially supplementing it.
Observor September 22, 2012 at 08:10 pm
Shhhhhhhhhh!!!! Shhhhhhhhhh!!!!
Nobody's supposed to know about that! It could cost the solar/wind crowd their government funding! I have my free welfare handout for my doomed enterprise, screw my children and grandchildren who will have to pay back the money that the government borrowed and gave to me!!!!
janet September 22, 2012 at 08:39 pm
The point is she obeyed the law unlike many other politicians. She was a private citizen. She has no obligation to pay back your debts once you declare bankruptcy but she chose to just to please the cry baby dems who don't practice what they preach.
Think Positive September 22, 2012 at 09:18 pm
Janet says: " but she chose to just to please the cry baby dems who don't practice what they preach".
Yup, she now looks like an appeaser who's pandering for votes. That's right, she was under no obilgation to pay back a 35 year old debt. So, why is she paying it back now? Is it so she can make herself appear more righteous? If she really wanted to make good on her 35 year old debt, she would have done it a loooong time ago. Good character is doing what's right even when no one is looking.
Think Positive September 22, 2012 at 09:26 pm
What? McMahon was late paying her real estate taxes. Looks like McMahon and Murphy have more in common then we thought.

Hey John, glad to see you agree with all of Linda's points. Go Linda.
“I disagree with Governor Romney’s insinuation that 47% of Americans believe they are victims who must depend on the government for their care...." http://ctsenate2012.nhregister.com/2012/09/18/linda-mcmahon-i-disgree-with-mitt-romney-on-47-percent/

There will always be winds in our oceans. Always. Most of the United States gets enough sun. Wind and Sun don't work like oil. Energy generated from these sources are stored - it's not like when the sun goes down your lights shut off. I am also a proponent of nuclear energy, but then you have the problem of the waste. This nonsense of people not wanting to look at windmills..... Sort of like no one will buy a house that has an electric or telephone pole in sight. But that said, wind mills could be placed off shore, out of sight, and generate plenty of energy.
I'm not saying we should give up oil, gas, or coal. I'm saying that we need to become less dependent on them, have more options, and stop relying on other countries to power our country. That would be like saying, ok, we have penicillin now so there no need for other medicines. Extremely short sighted.
jane September 23, 2012 at 01:22 am
Janet "At least Linda made her money in the private sector". So do pimps.
jane September 23, 2012 at 01:26 am
So she says she is making good on them now. Big deal. This is nothing but pandering. She could have done this years ago, doing it now is meaningless.
Legal obligation vs. moral obligation - one is what you can get away with, the other shows your character.

"After looking into the matter, her campaign manager, Corry Bliss, claimed that a glitch in the city’s tax collection system resulted in the McMahons never receiving the original bill." The Day
And who would have figured that come July property taxes would be due in CT.? She's a nothing.

People are fools if they vote for Murphy, career politician, who can't even manage his own checkbook and family budget!!
You want to give him control over the national budget and DEBT problem?!!! It is his ilk, who care only about their own political careers, and gaining more POWER over ordinary citizens' lives, who have caused the present crisis of overspending, where 40 cents of every $$$ spent by the federal government is BORROWED!!!!! No wonder we are on the brink of national fiscal disaster, because most of congress consists of incompetent career politicians (both parties) who think they are so superior to the ordinary 'little people.' Such are the attitudes of those like Murphy, who represents that very unaccountable, don't worry about spending money you don't have--especially if it's the TAXPAYERS' money!!
MisterSpuddy September 23, 2012 at 02:48 am
Chris Murphy has been a great Congressman and will make a great Senator.
Would not trust Linda McMahon as far as I could throw her!
Emily September 23, 2012 at 11:04 am
That article just illustrates perfectly why Mr. Murphy should be banished from Washington DC and possibly banned even as a visitor. Thank you for letting others see just how bad he is.
Ken September 23, 2012 at 11:24 am
CT voted Blumenthal in and he lied about being in Vietnam... So does a non career politician have a chance? Some people think lawyers make better laws than business folks.. CT enjoy your mediocrity and corrupt lawyers!
