Middletown Man Faces Manslaughter Charge After Cheshire Motorcycle Crash
Cheshire Police say Ryan Scalese of Middletown hit a motorcycle driven by Moises Larriu, 50, of Southington, who died at the scene.
A Middletown man is facing manslaughter and related charges after police say he caused the death of a Southington man driving a motorcycle on Route 10 and Interstate 691 in Cheshire Sunday evening.
On Oct. 20 at 10:38 p.m., the Cheshire Police Department received a call for a serious motor vehicle accident on Route 10 at the intersection of I-691. The accident involved a passenger car, motorcycle and an SUV, according to a press release issued by Cheshire Police Lt. James Fasano.
The car, driven by Lourdes Ortiz, 53, of Waterbury, and a motorcycle driven by Moises Larriu, 50, of Plantsville, were traveling north on Route 10 when a southbound SUV operated by Ryan Scalise, 31, of Dove Lane, Middletown, began to turn left onto the I-691 eastbound entrance ramp directly in the path of the two northbound vehicles, according to the report.
Both Larriu’s motorcycle and Ortiz’s car hit Scalise's SUV. Larriu was thrown from the motorcycle and pronounced deceased at the scene. Ortiz was not injured, Cheshire police indicate.
Scalise was charged with second-degree manslaughter, interfering with an officer and failure to grant right of way and is being held on $100,000 bond. He is being arraigned at Meriden Superior Court Monday morning.
