Cheshire's Only Bookstore to Close

Alphabet Garden to close at end of month.

Here is a statement released by Alphabet Garden bookstore owner Karlene Rearick:

The Alphabet Garden Bookstore Going Out of Business

After seven years of being Cheshire’s family bookstore, bookstore will be closing its doors for good by the end of July.  In an already challenging economy, sales are also being impacted by the rise of the e-book.

“This was a difficult decision to make, because we have many customers who prefer the physical book and we would love to be able to continue providing the same service that we have become known for," said owner Karlene Rearick.

"We have enjoyed being able to bring readers and authors together as part of our mission to promote a love of reading.  We will miss our storytimes and birthday parties and the other events we have hosted that have given us the opportunity to get to know the children and families in our community.”

Editor's note: The Alphabet Garden expanded its inventory in 2010 when it moved from the Watch Factory Shoppes on Elm Street to a larger location on South Main Street. An interview with Rearick will be posted next week on Cheshire Patch.
