2012 Saw The Highest Average Gas Prices Ever

Even though the average price per gallon in Connecticut has been on the decline in recent months, the annual average was the highest ever.

The average price of gasoline in 2012 is likely to be the most expensive ever, according to the price tracking website GasBuddy.com.

"While the national average continues to fall, we've done the math- the yearly average in 2012 is all but guaranteed to set all time record highs," said Patrick DeHaan, senior petroleum analyst. "We still stand at $3.63 per gallon for a yearly average, and gasoline prices would need to average no more than $2.35 per gallon for every day left in 2012 for the national yearly average to drop below 2011, something that appears impossible."

In Connecticut, the average price per gallon dropped two cents in a week to $3.77. A month ago the price was $3.87.

Nationally, the average is $3.39.
