Technology Pioneer Steve Jobs Dies at 56

Apple Computer Co-Founder Dies after Decade-Long Illness.

Apple announced Steve Job's death Wednesday and said the company's cofounder had made the world immeasurably better.

"Steve's brilliance, passion and energy were the source of countless innovations that enrich and improve all of our lives," the company said.

A timeline of Jobs' career in The Los Angeles Times notes that Jobs resigned as the chief executive of Apple in August. He had a decade-long struggle with illness; pancreatic cancer followed by a liver transplant.

Jobs met Steve Wozniak While attending Homestead High School in Cupertino, Calif., the LA Times reports. In 1976, the two launched Apple Computer out of Jobs' parents' garage.
