Central Connecticut Chiropractic celebrates 20 years of changing lives one spine and mind at a time

CHESHIRE – Central Connecticut Chiropractic and staff are celebrating 20 years of success in helping people of all ages achieve healthier lives. Chiropractic is a lifestyle, not the misconception of a treatment of a condition or disease, said Luigi DiRubba, a Doctor of Chiropractic and Fellow of the International Chiropractic Association.

Dr. DiRubba, who was educated at the Palmer College of Chiropractic, C.W. Post College at Long Island University and the University of South Florida, said his patients can speak loud to the benefits of chiropractic. However, there are still many people who do not understand this approach to restoring and maintaining health, he said. Far too often, people are not proactive and wait until they become sick before they are seen by a medical professional or best yet, a chiropractor.

Human bodies are innately wired to adapt to try to stay healthy, according to Dr. DiRubba, and when the physical being is in its ideal state, mental, emotional and social good health follows. “The body is a self-healing mechanism,” he said.

Many people think that they may need a drug, portion or lotion, or surgical procedure; however, natural spinal and body alignment allows for the cells to communicate and interact, which in turn, keeps all bodily systems operating as they are meant to. When someone is out of balance his or her body becomes distorted, miscommunicated and various problems and diseases manifest, the chiropractor said.

Dr. DiRubba’s interest in chiropractic began when he was young and growing up inNew York. In 1979, at the age of 13, he injured his neck in a wrestling match, was rushed to the hospital semi-paralyzed, placed in traction and highly medicated. After four days of traction, the doctors still had no answers and there was no improvement. “My Uncle Sal took one look at me and told my parents, ‘he needs to see my chiropractor.’ Within a matter of days I started to regain my health and continued my chiropractic care again throughout my teenage years and now lifetime for me and my family,” he said.

Dr. DiRubba said his chiropractic care has been successful in treating ADHD, allergies, asthma, auto accident injuries, headaches, carpal tunnel syndrome, common ailments of children and infants, sciatica, scoliosis, slipped disk, stress and much more.

All ages can benefit from chiropractic care and he is now treating third generations of the same families that he treated when he first took over the practice at 391 Highland Ave. in 1993 from Dr. John Burgess who was here for 40-plus years. Central Connecticut Chiropractic relies on natural approaches to help improve the spine’s biomechanics and reduce nervous system interference; “less interference means more communication”. The primary adjusting techniques he uses include Gonstead and Palmer, the latter being those taught at the Palmer College of Chiropractic, located in Davenport, Iowa, considered the birthplace of chiropractic in 1894.

With a research background, Dr. DiRubba also enjoys exploring and challenging traditional medical studies. “I love challenging science. A majority of the time research only confirms what many doctors and patients have seen in practice,” he said. He remains on top of his field by taking post-educational programs in neurology, physiology and biomechanics.

Dr. DiRubba is highly regarded in his field having achieved the distinction of 2005 Chiropractor of the Year from the Connecticut Chiropractic Council, served as past president and currently serves as vice president of the same council, and also is the Connecticut State Representative for the International Chiropractors Association. He has also taken mission trips to bring chiropractic care to others in need.

He credits his staff, which includes chiropractor Dr. Mark O’Laughlin, and three chiropractic assistants, for being outstanding in the field and assisting patients achieve optimal health.

As much as he loves his work, he equally loves his family and the Cheshire community, where he is engaged in various activities and sports. “I am happily married to my best friend AnnaMaria and we are blessed with six precious children, five daughters and a son,” he said.
