Cheshire Academy Appoints John Nozell Head of School

The Board of Trustees of Cheshire Academy today announced the appointment of John Nozell as the Academy’s next Head of School. Mr. Nozell, an experienced academic and business leader, will assume his new role August 1, succeeding Dr. Jerry Larson, who has served as Head of School for the past two years.

“John Nozell brings an impressive blend of management, financial, academic and leadership skills to Cheshire Academy at a very positive time in our school’s 220-year history,” said Richard Cerrone, chair of the Cheshire Academy Board of Trustees. “John has demonstrated a passion for education and a sophisticated understanding of organizational success throughout his career. We welcome him and his family to campus and look forward to their contributions to our community in the years ahead.”

A graduate of Colgate University and Cornell University’s Johnson Graduate School of Management, Mr. Nozell spent nearly 20 years with the Chase Manhattan Bank in senior management positions in finance and international investment banking in New York, Rochester and London.  He has also held executive management and board positions at AWAS Aviation Services Ltd., Advion BioSciences, The Seabury Group, and most recently has served as chief operating officer and board member of John G. Ullman & Associates, a wealth management firm.

“As the Academy’s 33rd Head of School, John is joining us as our enrollment projections and the academic achievements of our students are as strong as they have been in decades,” said Cerrone. “Much of our progress can be attributed to the leadership of Jerry Larson, who served as Head of School from 1999 to 2004, and returned in 2012 to see us through the search we completed in June with John Nozell’s appointment. We thank Jerry for his stewardship and wish him all the best in his future endeavors.”
