Friends of Boulder Knoll Welcomes New Environmental Educator

Friends of Boulder Knoll (FOBK), a local educational and advocacy group, is excited to announce the hiring of Janak Desai as its new Environmental Educator and Harvest Manager.

Desai is a certified Master Gardener, a mini farmer, a yoga teacher and an environmentalist. After 11 years in the information technology field, Desai shifted careers to sustainable farming. Desai has managed a farmers market, launched the Sustainable Fairfield environmental group, led science education classes at Mill River Lab, and worked to create community gardens.

“We are thrilled to have Janak on board,” said Fellis Jordan, chair of FOBK’s education committee. “Janak’s experience and dedication to sustainability will help insure that our CSA members and the Connecticut Food Bank receive quality produce and his commitment to the environment will take our education programs to the next level and enable us to work with more community groups.”

“What has really struck me so far is how community is such a central theme at the farm,” said Desai. “The farm is a place where good quality food can be grown in a sustainable manner and where many a learning experience takes place, be it through a formal process or just by being there...and doing!’

Education is a central component and an essential element in the mission of the Friends of Boulder Knoll, the farm’s sponsoring organization. FOBK’s goal is to emphasize essential links between people, plants, and the earth, to develop interdisciplinary learning, and to promote environmental responsibility.
