Not a necessity. We need to rein in these optional "sports". There is inherent danger in pools. That is why I closed mine several years ago. It was an 18 x 36 gunnite structure, which I maintained meticulously. I had to remove the bodies of little rabbits several times. One evening, while going out to chlorinate the pool before leaving for the evening, I discovered two big, heavy men lounging in the pool, dressed in bathing suits. They said they had been passing by and decided to drop in for a swim. The pool was not visible from any road, and the nearest was several hundred feet away, so they were lying. As I headed for the phone, they scrambled out of the pool and ran. Had either one had an accident, I would have been liable. We need to think about the potential liability in operating a pool. It would need to be monitored 24/7, by persons with cell phone at the ready to summon police, or God forbid, an ambulance.
