Cheshire's Annual Budget to be Released on Monday

The town manager and members of the town's finance staff are putting their finishing touches on a proposal that will be delivered to members of the Cheshire Town Council over the weekend.

Elected officials approved a town budget of $98.7 million for the 2012-13 fiscal year and with the Board of Education already submitting a request for a $2.4 million increase in 2013-14, that proposal is likely to be even higher this year.

Members of the Cheshire Town Council will receive their copy of the annual budget proposal over the weekend and documents will be available for public review beginning Monday, officials said.

The budget will incorporate figures from the state's proposal, which calls for even funding to the community over the next two years despite small increases in Educational Cost Sharing funds during that time.

The Cheshire Town Council is expected to take on discussions regarding the budget with their meeting on Tuesday, March 12. The meeting will include analysis of how the proposed budget will change the mill rate and affect local revenue needs.

The council meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at Cheshire Town Hall, 84 Main St., and is open to the public.

Copies of the budget will also be made available starting Monday at Cheshire Public Library or in the clerk's office or town manager's office in Cheshire Town Hall. It will also be uploaded to the town’s website as soon as feasible, officials said.
