Hurricane Sandy: Cheshire’s Closings, Cancellations, Other Updates

Here is a list of all the basic details you need to know about the storm as it hits Connecticut

An emergency shelter has been opened at the Parks and Recreation Department’s Youth Center, 559 South Main St. Those without power can take advantage of the shelter.

Cheshire public and parochial schools will be closed today and Tuesday; Cheshire Academy cancelled classes and athletics for today only. Other town closures include:

  • Board of Education
  • Community Pool
  • Public Library
  • Senior Center
  • Town Hall

“All evening meetings or events at town facilities have been cancelled,” states the Cheshire town website.

CL&P reported one power outage in Cheshire as of 2 p.m. Prospect had 11 outages as of 11 a.m. and two as of 2 p.m.

Michael Milone, Cheshire Town Manager, met with the rest of the emergency management staff today and listened to the governor’s update at noon. Governor Dannel Malloy closed state highways to non-emergency vehicles at 1 p.m. today.

Cheshire volunteer firehouses are staffed today, Milone said.

“By keeping them staffed we’re able to deploy [emergency responders] much more quickly in an emergency,” said Milone.
