Children's Pain and Fever Drops Recalled

Bottles of "Rugby" brand concentrated liquid pain medicine for children recalled for failure to provide child-resistant caps.

Nearly one million units of children's pain medicine distributed by Rugby Laboratories have been recalled.

The  U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission reported that the Rugby product sold as "Children's Pain & Fever Concentrated Drops" contains a dispensing dropper, which if left in place, is not child resistant.

"A child can access the medicine, posing serious health problems or death if more than the recommended dosage is consumed," the commission reported.

The Rugby acetaminophen drops were sold in drug stores, grocery stores and other retailers nationwide between January 2009 and June 2011 for about $4.

Consumers should immediately store the medicine and keep it out of the reach of children. To arrange for a free replacement dropper, contact Altaire Pharmaceuticals at (800) 258-2471 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday.
