Lawmakers meeting in a special session in Hartford late last night voted to cut $252.3 million from the state budget. That figure, combined with $108 million in cuts Gov. Dannel P. Malloy already made earlier, are intended to erase a $365 million state budget shortfall by year's end.
The cuts included $90 million in reimbursements the state makes to Connecticut's hospitals for treating the uninsured and underinsured, the Connecticut Mirror reports.
Under the cuts approved by the General Assembly the state will also tighten its tax credit guidelines for the film industry and end the longevity bonuses given to nonunionized state employees, according to the Hartford Courant.
