The bridge that carries the Farmington Canal rails to trails pathway over busy Route 322 in Southington will be closed from morning to evening for the next two weeks, officials announced. The pathway is in the Milldale section of town.
The old railroad bridge, which is covered with graffitti and rust, is being painted by a contractor who will close the pathway from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. To cross the area, walkers and bicyclists will have to detour down the incline onto Clark Street, cross the intersection, and return to the raised pathway either north or south of the bridge.
Only one traffic lane under the bridge will be open to vehicles during the project. Route 322 is also called the Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike.
