Soucy No Longer Holds State Labor Jobs

Fallout continues from the Donovan campaign finance investigation.

A Democrat in the federal investigation of campaign finances for Chris Donovan’s congressional campaign has left three union jobs.

The Hartford Courant reports that Ray Soucy, a Cheshire prison supervisor and elected bailiff, was ousted from his position as treasurer of the state correction officers union. The Courant reported Soucy also stepped down from two Connecticut AFL-CIO posts after union leaders expressed concerns about his role in the scandal.

The Courant earlier reported that Soucy went on voluntary leave from his job as a supervisor at the state Department of Correction complex in Cheshire after he was approached by FBI agents in April.

Soucy is said to be a co-conspirator in the scheme to conceal contributions to Donovan’s campaign by tobacco dealers and might be cooperating with the FBI investigation. Donovan’s campaign finance director Robert Braddock Jr. was arrested late last week by the FBI and was then fired by Donovan.

Donovan is running for the Democratic Party nomination to succeed Chris Murphy in Connecticut's 5th Congressional District. Cheshire's Elizabeth Esty and Dan Roberti of Kent are are both challenging Donovan in the August primary election.
