2013 Cheshire Food Drive "40/40" Campaign

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Cheshire Food Drive, a non-profit community organization founded in 1973 to collect food and monetary donations to help feed families in need in the town of Cheshire.

In recognition of 40 years of service to the people of Cheshire, the Cheshire Food Drive is launching its “40/40” campaign. “The unpredictable economy continues to hurt a lot of families in our town,” said co-chairperson Marléna Soble. “We’re hoping to collect 40,000 individual food items and, perhaps more importantly, to raise $40,000 to fund the Food Voucher Program throughout the year.”

The Food Voucher Program, administered by the Cheshire Human Services Department, is available to Cheshire residents in need of short-term emergency assistance. Each voucher, worth $40, is redeemable only at town supermarkets–Everybody’s and Stop & Shop. Although the program currently distributes about 720 vouchers a year, there is a growing demand to help more people who have lost jobs, had hours reduced, or are struggling to make ends meet. It is easy to support these neighbors. Visit

On Saturday, November 2, and Sunday, November 3 – from 9 am to 3 pm – the Cheshire Food Drive will hold its annual collection of non-perishable food items on the Town Green. All donations will help stock the shelves of the Cheshire Community Food Pantry. Throughout town, individuals, schools, businesses, and places of worship are encouraged to make monetary or food donations to the Cheshire Food Drive.

“At CFD, we believe there is no more basic need than food,” said co-chairperson John Nann. “Cheshire is a very generous and caring community, and I believe that together we can ensure that no one goes to bed hungry in our town.”
