Grace Baptist Church embraces Chinese ministry.

An evening of festivities was enjoyed recently at in Cheshire to celebrate Chinese New Year, the Year of the Dragon. Of the 12-year Chinese zodiac cycle, this year is considered the most auspicious.

On Jan. 28, church members gathered for dinner and a program of Chinese song, dance, story-telling and riddles. Guests enjoyed music by virtuoso violinist Shan Jiang, who has performed with the New York Philharmonic and the Chicago Symphony.

Also on the program was Xi Wang, the artistic director of the New Haven Butterfly Chinese Dance Ensemble. She performs an extensive Yunnan ethnic dance repertory across the state.

A children's choir comprised of grade school students from Cheshire helped to get the entertainment started with a Christian song.
