CL&P Offers Credit on Certain Electric Bills

Credit will be given to those without power for a full week.

Connecticut Light & Power announced Wednesday that it plans to provide credits on customers' February electric bills ranging from $100 to $200.

The credits are for customers who were without power for a full week after the Nor'easter brought down trees and power lines in October.

A statement from the utlity said those receiving the credit won't be required to sign a release of legal claims to receive the compensation.

Customers who were without power until 12 p.m. on Saturday, November 5 can apply for the credit at www.cl-p.com or by calling 888-566-9257.  All applications must be received by 5 p.m. on January 31, 2012, according to the company.

CL&P said the money for the credit comes from a post-storm fund of about $30 million that was established by parent company Northeast Utilities.

"The credit was not intended to be a reimbursement for losses during the storm, but rather a gesture of goodwill to the approximately last 25 percent of our customers to get power back – those without power a week or more," said Sharon Eberman, director of Customer Experience Operations for CL&P and Yankee Gas.  "We wanted to make sure that we would reach a large number of customers, but also that the credit would be a meaningful amount."

"We hope that most of our customers will recognize the fund for what it is – our sincere attempt to show that we care about our customers,"  Eberman said.
