The Upside of Dark Nights in Cheshire

A family new to Cheshire shares their story of making the best of things without power.

This first person account was written by Cathy Vellucci, an Cheshire Patch reader:

Our family is a newly combined one. My husband and I were just married in August.  He has two older kids (21- and 20-years old) and I have two younger kids (13- and 9-years old), and we moved into our home in September.

(On Sunday) we were sitting in our toasty family room with the fire going with a host of pretty candles on our mantel for light.  My husband just made hotdogs and beans on the grille and we are soon going to make s'mores over the fire.

We have a small generator for some limited power and watched a couple of DVDs last night.  It's great bonding time for us.

It was sweet to see all four of our kids sleeping in the family room with the fire going and the dogs next to them.  And yep, we had two dogs each when we combined families.

We are not the Brady Bunch by any stretch, but we're pretty good at making the best of things and having fun.
