Cheshire Obituaries: Joseph A. Bernardini, 93

He was a US Navy veteran, having served in World War II.




Joseph A. Bernardini, 93, formerly of Cheshire, died Dec. 26, 2013 in New Britain. 

He was the husband of the late Alice Mignone Bernardini and the loving father of Bernadette Less (Richard) of Los Alamos, New Mexico, Alice Hertell (Jim) of Cheshire, Phyllis Zawacki (Walter) of Meriden and Gloria Hollenbeck of Wallingford and the brother of Louis Bernardini of North Haven and Letitia McCauley of Florida.

He is also survived by his six cherished grandchildren: Everett Less, Brandon Hertell, Allison Martin, Greg Zawacki, Brian and Richie Hollenbeck, and five great-grandchildren, Addison and Adam Less, Madison Martin, Abriana and Georgia Zawacki. He was predeceased by a brother, Ralph Bernardini.

Joseph was born in New Haven on May 2, 1920, the son of the late Joseph and Armelinda Bonugli Bernardini. He was a US Navy veteran, having served in World War II.

Mr. Bernardini retired after many years as a supervisor for the former Greist Manufacturing.

His funeral will leave from Sisk Brothers Funeral Home, 3105 Whitney Ave., Hamden, on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 8:30 - 9:30 a.m.
