Cheshire Obituaries: Otelia R. Evans, 92

She was a resident of Cheshire for the past 51 years and was a Licensed Practical Nurse with Yale-New Haven Hospital for 28 years.




Otelia R. Evans, 92, of Cheshire, entered into eternal rest Friday, Dec. 27, 2013 at the CT Hospice in Branford.

Born in Hampton, VA to the late Harrison and Pinkie Brown Kirby, Otelia has been a resident of Cheshire for the past 51 years. Otelia was a Licensed Practical Nurse with Yale New Haven Hospital for 28 years.

Her spiritual needs were met as a disciple of Beulah Heights First Pentecostal Church where she served on the Nursing Ministry, pianist for the Harvest Time and Sr. Choirs and president of the Shepherd’s Committee. She was also an active member of the CT District Council.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a son, Calvin Evans and daughter, Dale Evans. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Jefferson Evans of Cheshire; a daughter, Bunardy (Brack) Poitier of Hamden; four grandchildren, Jeanere R. (Brian) Poitier-Rainey of AZ, Brackston G. Poitier of Hamden, Baron G. (Kristain) Poitier of TX and Maria (Reginald) Morton of Hamden; eleven great-grandchildren; a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Jan. 3 at 6 p.m. at Beulah Heights First Pentecostal Church, 782 Orchard St., New Haven, with Bishop Theodore Brooks, Pastor, officiating. Interment will take place Saturday, Jan. 4 at 10 a.m. at Beaverdale Cemetery in Hamde. Friends are invited to the viewing Friday from 5 – 6 p.m. at the church followed by funeral services.
