Obituary for Dawn Mays-Hardy

Service for Mays-Hardy, 53, is Saturday

Dawn Mays-Hardy, 53, of Cheshire,went home to be with the Lord on June 3, 2012. Dawn was born on Aug. 26, 1958, in Atlantic City, NJ to Cornelia (Bennett) Mays and Larkey Mays, Jr.

Dawn worked as a policy director for the American Lung Association in New England. She co-led a trip to Tanzania for Drama and Divinity School students from Yale University interested in the possibilities of social change.

Dawn continued her ministry at Cross Street AME Zion Church in Middletown, all while beginning a doctoral program at Hartford Seminary in Connecticut, where she hoped to further explore her vision of holistic ministry.

Dawn is survived by her husband, Clarence; daughter, LaRae; mother, Cornelia Mays; siblings, Patricia Stewart, Deborah Cousins, Larkey Mays, III (Corlette), and Larry Mays; mother-in-law, Mae Hardy; sister-in-law, Melva Hardy; and a host of other family members and friends. 

Funeral Services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, June 9, 2012, Price Memorial AME Zion Church, 525 Atlantic Ave., Atlantic City, NJ, where friends may call from 9 a.m. Burial will follow in Egg Harbor City Cemetery, NJ. Donations may made to Beatrice Mays Scholarship Fund, 1301 Washington Ave., Egg Harbor City, NJ 08215.
