Obituary for Frederick J. Haesche

Frederick J. Haesche, a longtime Cheshire resident passed away on June 11 in Freehold, New Jersey. Born in New Haven, Connecticut on December 8th, 1924 Fred was the only child of the late Frederick D. Haesche and Irene (nee Shay) Haesche. Fred graduated from New Haven's John Hillhouse High School.

Fred served three years in the army during World War II as a machine gunner in Company I of the 290th Infantry Regiment, reaching the rank of Corporal. He was wounded during the Battle of the Bulge and was awarded a Bronze Star and Purple Heart.

After the war he earned his Bachelor's of Science degree in industrial engineering from the University of Connecticut and a law degree from the University of Connecticut School of Law. He was a patent attorney for 45 years at the Hartford law firm of McCormick, Paulding & Huber where he became a partner. Fred was admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States and the United States Patent Office.

He was also a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association and the Connecticut Patent Bar Association. He was an early and avid builder and operator of radio controlled model airplanes and belonged to the Association of Model Aeronautics.

He also was a member of the Second Company Governor's Foot Guard for over 55 years where he achieved the rank of Lt. Colonel and served numerous years as Judge Advocate. Fred is survived by his wife of 56 years, Betty Jane (nee Nutley) Haesche, and two daughters, Elizabeth Hopkins, of Millstone, New Jersey, and Mary Jane Haesche, of West Brookfield, Massachusetts.

His funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue, Saturday morning at 9:30. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Frances Cabrini Church at 10:00. Interment with full military honors will follow in the State Veterans Cemetery, Middletown.

The visiting hours will be Friday from 6 to 8 pm. In lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions be made in Fred's memory to the Second Company, Governor's Foot Guard Association, Inc., P.O.
