Vickie Nardello Wins Nomination

Vickie Nardello easily won the nomination for State Representative from the 89th District.  Democrats from Bethany, Cheshire and Prospect unanimously voted to endorse Vickie Nardello’s run for office.  “Vickie is exactly what we need in the Legislature” said Eileen Cranney, Prospect Democratic Town Chair.  “She possesses a unique ability to be strong, to stand up for those that most need it, yet able to form a consensus with those who may be of differing opinions.”

“Jobs cannot and should not be outsourced,” Nardello told the crowd at Tuesday’s nominating convention held at the Cheshire Senior Center. We need to make it easier for businesses to grow their workforce so that our young people and young families can stay here in our great State.”   While making it easier for small businesses to do business in Bethany, Cheshire and Prospect, Nardello envisions investments in the fields of health, bioscience and green energy as ways to create jobs.

“I will always stand up for those in my community” Nardello said.  In the past, Nardello has challenged the leadership in her own political party.  She asks tough questions, thoroughly researches every issue before her and makes independent decisions.  Vickie’s work ethic comes directly from her hardworking parents.

Vickie Nardello’s parents emigrated from Italy when Vickie was a young child.  They taught her the value of working hard, getting a good education and to care for others.  Vickie was the first in her family to graduate from college.  She became a dental hygienist in a public school and has fought government bureaucracy for years – trying to improve children’s access to quality health care. Pat Baker, delegate from Cheshire, said “Vickie has been an advocate for all kids in Connecticut taking issues that no one talked about and making them central.”

Vickie has always stood up for us” said Carol Goldberg, Bethany Democratic Town Chair.  “After all of those terrible storms that we had, it was Vickie who created new accountability standards for emergency storm response that requires utility companies to get the power back on in a timely fashion.”  Vickie continues to advocate for those in her community.  She is a leader in the effort to stop auctioning off consumers’ electricity accounts to the highest bidder.  “She believes that consumers should not be made to pay exorbitant rates from private electric companies.”

When asked about the surplus in the state budget Nardello said, “I believe that fiscal responsibility is achieved by judging all budget proposals on their individual merits and effectiveness. I will make those difficult decisions within the framework of a balanced budget.  We all have to manage our personal budgets.  So should the State.”

Nardello emphasized the importance of being available to members of her community – from taking telephone calls at night or on the weekends to visiting people in their homes to discuss their issues.
