Cheshire Police ask Parents to Weigh Risks of Trick or Treating Tonight

With debris hidden under snow and few working streetlights, police ask families to use caution if they go trick or treating. More than 90 percent of residents sill without power.

Cheshire won't officially cancel trick or treating tonight, but police have advice for families who do choose to follow the traditional Halloween custom: assess the risks.

"It's difficult to tell them not to have Halloween," said Lt. James Fasano of the Cheshire Police Department. "But, with snow on the ground, tree limbs down and cold weather, parents need to assess the risks."

Fasano said some neighborhoods may be more clear of debris than others and it may be safe in those area for for families to trick or treat at the homes of neighbors.

Connecticut Light and Power urges caution tonight because downed lines may be hidden by snow and debris. The utility urges parents or adults to accompany their children while trick or treating to help them avoid any potentially dangerous situations.
