Cheshire Police To Conduct DUI Checkpoints Memorial Day Weekend

The department will be out in full force on the first day of Memorial Day weekend.

In an effort to crack down on drunk driving during Memorial Day weekend, the Cheshire Police Department will be conducting roadside sobriety checkpoints on Friday, May 24 and Saturday, May 25, according to a department press release.

The department will be conducting the checkpoints throughout town from 6 p.m. on Friday, May 24 to 2 a.m. on Saturday, May 25. At the checkpoints, officers will both check to see if drivers are under the influence of alcohol or drugs and if drivers have proper licensing, according to the release.

The checkpoints are to deter people from driving under the influence, according to the release. Studies show that crashes involving alcohol drop by an average of 20 percent when well-publicized checkpoints are conducted, according to the release.
