Hamden Police Seek Carjacking Suspect

Hamden Police are reportedly seeking a suspect wanted for shoplifting merchandise from Shop Rite before he forced a teen to drive him away from the scene.

Hamden Police are reportedly seeking a man they say tried to shoplift $250 worth of merchandise from the Shop Rite supermarket on Dixwell Avenue over the weekend before forcing a teen to drive him from the scene.

According to a FoxCT report in the Hartford Courtant, the man fled the 2100 Dixwell Ave. store Sunday afternoon after being confronted by security personnel. The man, described as about six-feet tall with a husky build and black-and-grey hair, sprinted through the parking lot before forcing his way into a car driven by a 17-year-old boy.

The thief told the teen he had a gun and forced him to drive about a half-mile to Dixwell Avenue parking lot where he fled the car, according to the report. Police described the suspect as armed and dangerous.

Police said anyone who may have information about the incident should contact Det. Sean Dolan at 203-230-4000.
