Inmate Theft Complaint Leads to Police Investigation

State Troopers are looking into a complaint that a Cheshire Correctional Institution Inmate had personal property stolen while being transferred from a different facility.

State police have initiated an investigation into the possible theft of personal property from an inmate at the Cheshire Correctional Institution earlier this month, according to a report from Troop I in Bethany.

Juan Baez, an imate currently incarcerated at the facility, reported missing items after he was transferred from the Osborn Correctional Institution in Somers on Jan. 12. According to State Police Troop I in Bethany, he arrived and found his possessions were not there when he arrived in Cheshire.

Further details of the case were not immediately available.

Baez, 36, is currently serving a 20-month sentence for violating the terms of probation related to a 2010 conviction for second-degree assault. He is due to be released in July, according to the state Department of Correction.
