Man Faces Attempted Murder Charge in Weekend Shooting

Southington Police say a 22-year-old man was shot in a parking lot early Sunday.


A New Britain man is facing attempted murder charges following a shooting that left a man wounded early Sunday, according to Southington Police.

At about 1:40 a.m. March 23, Southington Police received a 911 call that a person had been shot in a parking lot near Center Street, according to a police report released Monday morning.

Upon officers arrival they found a 22-year-old male victim suffering from a single gunshot wound to the body. The shooter had fled the area. The police statement didn't indicate the extent of the victim's injuries and where he was brought for treatment.

About nine hours later on Sunday, at approximately 10:30 a.m., Southington Police arrested Jesus Morales Jr., 32, of 154 Long Swamp Rd., New Britain, near his home. The report did  not indicate whether a weapon was recovered.

He was charged with criminal attempt to commit murder, first-degree assault and unlawful discharge of a firearm.

Morales, whose bond was set at $1 million, is scheduled to appear in court Monday, March 24.
